<p>In addition to our starting point, there is another consideration, which is still important and often ignored by the &#8216;fitness gurus&#8217; at all. What are your personal goals?</p>
<p>Lose weight</p>
<p>Heart and lung unit</p>
<p>Endurance conditioning</p>
<p>-Muscle and Fitness</p>
<p>-more muscle</p>
<p>and so on?</p>
<p>What do you mean?</p>
<p>-Burning of existing fat</p>
<p>Toning-existingMuscle</p>
<p>Muscle building new</p>
<p>-more flexible?</p>
<p>If you are significantly overweight (20%) over ideal weight, then you need to concentrate on starting a routine activity.</p>
<p>Here is a good starting point. Poor progress of your fitness can be achieved, if not breathe properly. There is a simple reason. You need dissolved oxygen in the blood not only survive but also to produce energy. In clear terms, some oxygen burns&#8217; offerEnergy required for the exercise.</p>
<p>Hey Mike, this is nothing new that is the same old, same old â¦</p>
<p>Alright consider this when your body burns just the food you eat to produce energy, how can we remove? Not only that, if your body does not produce all the food you are eating to burn to produce energy, then you will put on weight as your body stores the food for later use.</p>
<p>That is the logic that is behind the design of calorie deficient diets. Burn more calories than you eat to loseWeight.</p>
<p>There are two major problems with this kind of logic.</p>
<p>1. We are all lazy.</p>
<p>2. The human body is intelligent and knows how to exhaustion, hunger and protect all other threats.</p>
<p>Wait a minute Mike. I&#8217;m not lazy, I signed up for the aerobics class.</p>
<p>Well, that&#8217;s great, but here is the point. By establishing a set diet, you have trained your body to expect a certain caloric intake, and on a predictable basis. More importantly, your body now awaitsa certain caloric outgo by moving back on a predictable basis.</p>
<p>Your body will do what it takes to protect themselves. It helps to store energy against the peak demand made by your aerobics. He will do what is necessary to be against what it perceives as a threat to protect the status quo.</p>
<p>The human body has the ability to slow by hormones, or accelerate a variety of body functions. A typical example of a response is the production ofAdrenaline during the physical dangers that would be another case of stress cortisol.</p>

<p>Sure, we know we need to exercise for health, but what are the real reasons to exercise?</p>

<p>Well, the list can be very long, but here are a few items you may wish to consider.</p>

<p>Exercise will help with fat loss:  Notice, I did NOT say, &#8220;weight loss&#8221;.  You see, while weight can be a general indicator of health and fitness, it isn&#8217;t a perfect indicator.  People have different body types, for example, and a physically fit, attractive, and perfectly healthy person can weigh more than what the charts say they should.  It isn&#8217;t necessarily what you weigh that&#8217;s as important as what that weight is comprised of.  After all, at his peak of health and fitness, Arnold Schwarzenegger was &#8220;overweight&#8221; but had a very low level of fat on his body.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>While some fat in and on the body is necessary to health and proper functioning of various systems within the body, it is excess fat which becomes the villain and which must be gotten rid of.  You exercise to do a lot of good things for your body, and to burn fat is one of them.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>YOU have heard that exercise burns calories, but, when done properly, it will also burn fat.  Burning calories is important because excess calories is where fat comes from, and when we burn the calories through physical activity, they do not have a chance to be stored as fat.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>People who are overweight are more likely to be susceptible to a wide range of health difficulties.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Exercise can help prevent disease: It has been demonstated through many studies that participating in regular physical activity can help prevevent the occurence of many diseases and degenerative conditions such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, and depression.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>These studies also show that a lack of exercise is often a contributing risk factor in many of these diseases and conditions.  Sometimes, the effect of exercise is indirect but still of importance.  As mentioned above, exercising to lose weight is a common goal, but often, a direct effect of losing weight is improved health in many areas.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Exercise helps improve overall health:  Well, if regular exercise, combined with healthy eating and living practices, can help combat disease and degenerative conditions, isn&#8217;t that a pretty big deal?  If, in addition to that, a regular program of physical activity can indirectly produce positive health effects as well, such as in the discussion on exercise and weight loss above, isn&#8217;t that even better?  What more do you need to say about the subject?</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Of course, those are some great points, but when you consider the overall positive effects of exercise on the immune system, the muscular system, the bones, the cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary systems, you can see that the value of regular moderate exercise can be even greater than originally anticipated.  The person who exercises regularly CAN, in most cases, expect a more effective immune system to combat ill-health in many forms, stronger bones (an effect that can carry over into the senior years), a stronger, healthier heart and lungs, which, in turn, will make life easier and healthier.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Oh yes, don&#8217;t forget the stronger muscles which will be available to carry that healthy body around!</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Exercise can improve your mental state:  You may have heard of &#8220;runner&#8217;s high&#8221;, that euphoric feeling that those who exercise regularly become familiar with.  It&#8217;s not just a state of mind!  It is actually a result of the active body manufacturing, releasing, and/or activating &#8220;feel good&#8221; chemicals.  Not only will the body and brain be exposed to natural, internal products such as endorphins and seratonin DURING the exercise period, but levels will commonly remain elevated in the regular exerciser.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Exercise to relieve depression has long been a standard in the arsenal of phychological health.  Exercise and stress (which can be involved in a myriad of health problems) is a much studied area, and the verdict is in.  Exercise can help improve not only depression and stress, but can even elevate the ability of the brain to function as it goes about its daily tasks, including regulating the processes of the body, and as it attempts to solve problems, learn new tasks, and make sense of the vast amount of data the moder person is exposed to.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>While on the subject of how you feel, let&#8217;s touch briefly on &#8220;how you feel about yourself&#8221;.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>When you take positive steps to improve yourself, you feel better&#8230;and better about yourself.  As your body becomes leaner, trimmer, more effective, you feel better&#8230;and better about yourself.  As you become stronger, healthier, and more full of the joy of living, you feel better&#8230;and better about yourself.  Feelings such as these cannot help but be radiated out towards those around you, and be reflected back at you, making you feel better&#8230;and better about yourself!</p>

<p>Having said all that, it comes as no surprise that&#8230;.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Exercise improves your ability to function socially:  Not only will you feel better, look better, be healthier, and have a better self image and improved self confidence, but you will actually be better able to perform socially.  Whether you want to learn to do ballroom dancing, ice skating, or simply stand face-to-face with someone who once would have overwhelmed you with THEIR presence, you will be better able to stand your ground.  You will know that you are better prepared mentally and physically to meet the rigors of life, love (and sex), work, and play&#8230;and enjoy it!</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Exercise does not have to be hard&#8230;at least at first.  It is something that you get more out of the more you put in.  However, at first, if you have not been exercising, any small change to get started is literally a step in the right direction.  Oh, eventually you will probably need some good shoes, a set of barbells, a yoga mat, or a professional fitness trainer, but at the start, you will just need the knowledge of what regular exercise can do for you, and the willingness to get started and stay with it.</p>

<p>Maybe the reasons to exercise I have outlined above will help.</p>

By Andrew Smith, Webmaster at UsanaInHealth.com <br/><br/>In my opinion, exercise is essential for everyone, regardless of personal goals and targets regarding health.Â  Exercise is not just for athletes or people looking to drop weight or gain muscle, it is essential for all of us.Â  If you believe that you do not need to exercise because you look well as you are then it is likely that the inside of your body may tell a different story!Â  <br/><br/>When I suggest physical activity I do not always mean formal exercises in a gym or health club setting.Â  I am referring to any activity that gets you moving and pushes your body outside of its usual sedentary or cumfortable state.Â  This is the principle known as OVERLOAD.Â  You overload a muscle when you encourage it to work harder than it normally would and this also applies to your heart muscle! <br/><br/>I am not about to bore you with all the reasons why you should exercise, but I am sure that you are reading this because you want to improve or maintain your health.Â  Health and vitality starts with your capacity and willingness to use and improve your physical body. <br/><br/>I know that there will still be individuals reviewing this, believing that they don&#8217;t have time to exercise, or don&#8217;t really believe that they need to, but this is likely to be because a part of the brain is attempting to hinder their efforts to improve themselves!Â  This is the same part of the brain that tells you that your healthy eating plan can wait until Monday, or that one more biscuit wont make any difference!Â  We all have coping strategies of some sort and look to rationalise choices we make, even though we know through standard logic that what we are saying to ourselves isn&#8217;t always the case!Â  The trick is to learn to recognise when you are making excuses and to learn to silence the voice of negativity!Â  This is a hugely important element to making positive changes in any area of your life. <br/><br/>So I will just outline 3 areas to incorporate into your own personal fitness regime.Â  You must include cardiovascular exercise (elevating your heart rate), muscular exercise (strengthening and toning your muscles) and flexibility exercises (improving your posture and range of motion around your joints).Â  Each of these areas are equally important and should be included in your exercise routine. <br/><br/>Cardiovascular Exercise <br/><br/>In this article I will be focusing on cardiovascular exercise.Â  Cardiovascular exercise is important for a number of reasons:Â  Firstly, it improves the efficiency of your heart and lungs and enables your body to uptake and circulate greater quantities of oxygen.Â  If your body is able to take in and circulate more oxygen then you are less likely to get out of breath so quickly.Â  You will be able to sustain physical activity for longer periods of time and your heart and lungs will generally be healthier.Â  This is described as cardiovascular fitness. <br/><br/>If we overlook the obvious then there are other benefits to training at higher intensities.Â  If we use a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is too easy and 10 is almost impossible then you should aim to exercise at a minimum of 7.Â  At 7 it will be hard and you will sweat, but you should be able to sustain the level of difficulty for a minimum of 20 minutes.Â  When you exercise at this level, changes begin to occur in your body.Â  Your body generates more mitochondria in the muscles and the mitochondria are responsible for absorbing oxygen.Â  To cut a long story short, your body will only use fat in the presence of oxygen, so the greater your body&#8217;s capability to absorb oxygen, the greater your ability to burn fat! <br/><br/>There is another school of thought that says you should exercise at an intensity of 6 out of 10, as this is the âfat burning zone&#8217;.Â  Let me just explain something: you DO NOT burn more fat working at a difficulty level of 6 out of 10 than you do at an intensity of 7 out of 10! PERIOD! However, if you cannot sustain a minimum of 20 minutes at higher intensity then you should reduce your level of difficulty to achieve the full amount of time.Â  In my opinion this is the only time you should exercise at a lower intensity (other than warm ups and cool downs).Â  Working at 6 out of 10 will NOT encourage your body to undergo change and become a fat burning machine! <br/><br/>That said, only work up to higher intensities as your health develops.Â  You should be in this for the long haul, so don&#8217;t over do it in the first couple of days!Â  Start with what you are capable of doing and aim to develop over time.Â  Also, seek support from your doctor if you have any health conditions or concerns. <br/><br/>In my next post, I will be outlining a method for managing and improving your cardiovascular exercise and fitness.Â  This will provide a workable guide for anyone who is ready to begin exercising TODAY, or who has been exercising and wishes to develop further. <br/><br/>Please note that when you exercise your body uses more oxygen and as a waste product more free radicals are produced within your body.Â  Free radicals are volatile molecules, which attack and damage healthy cells in a process called oxidation (or free-radical damage).Â  It is widely believed that we need to ensure that we consume sufficient quantities of antioxidants (i.e. vitamins) to eliminate free radicals and safeguard our bodies against degenerative diseases.Â  If you would like to learn more about high quality, pharmaceutical grade nutritional supplements then please visit http://www.usanainhealth.com/products/?page_id=7 <br/><br/></p>
